Vermont Club Updates - May

Vermont Wellesley Club

Dear [first_name],

Happy Spring!

It's time to plan for summer potlucks, hikes, and other fun gatherings. We will be scheduling events at Joyce Errecart's in Shelburne, Susan Rittenhouse's in Burlington, and Sophie Zdatny's in Essex. We are also looking at hiking options again this year and already have plans for something at Camel's Hump and somehting in Northfield.  Please be in touch if you would like to have an event in your area.

Club Membership:

The club strives to keep us connected to one another and the college. Throughout the year, we provide a variety of events, admissions activities, and communications (email, one paper newsletter a year, and a Facebook group). Whether you attend any events or not, we are always here and working to keep the network vibrant.

Membership dues are only $15 per year. The truth is that you are a member of the club whether you give or not, but member support makes our activities possible. Currently only 14% of our Vermont residents are supporting the club with a membership contribution - last year we were at 16%. Can you help us exceed last year's participation? Your contribution helps make the club vital and relevant. Please help and become a member this year, if you haven't already.

Book Awards:

The Book Awards honor a female student in her junior year whose academic record and character are exceptional and who has also made significant personal contributions to her school and/or community. Take a look here on our website to learn more about the Book Award process and a list of which schools participate.  A school administrator recently told us, "The students who have received it consider it to be their greatest honor."

Unfortunately, The Book Awards Program is $550 short this year. To make this wonderful program possible, we need to to attract 16 more donors at $35 each to cover the books we send. Please know that a donation of any amount is welcome.

Make a gift to the Book Awards Program or make a membership contribution here.

Finally, we want to express our thanks to our departing board members: Sharon Colvin and Daryl Selyn - both are leaving the state to pursue career and education opportunities. We will miss you both. Fortunately, as we say goodbye, we also say welcome to our new board members!

Be sure to visit the website for updates to our summer events schedule - we're starting to schedule them now and will provide updates on the website and in our next email update.

Thanks one and all, for helping to keep our Vermont Wellesley network strong.

Every woman can—and should—make a meaningful contribution to her world. There is a growing recognition that women's empowerment and leadership are crucial to their own advancement, and to worldwide societal change. Wellesley and its alumnae have supported and championed women's intellectual and social development and autonomy for over 100 years.
