Summer in Vermont - is there anywhere better? Come celebrate the long, warm days over lively conversation with fellow alumnae: join the Vermont Wellesley club for a hike on August 9th in Fayston and/or a potluck on August 18th in Shelburne. Events are open to all alumnae, and we welcome the chance to connect with new and old friends. Details for both events are below.
If you would be willing to host or plan an event in your area of Vermont, please contact me. The club will help to promote any alumnae events through email notices and Facebook. Our next event after the ones detailed here will be in Lake Elmore in September: pencil September 12 in to your calendars now.
If you cannot join us at either event, please stay in touch through our Facebook group: Vermont Wellesley Club. We'll post updates and photos from events there.

Hike up Burnt Rock Mountain in Fayston on Sunday, August 9
Co-leaders: Elizabeth Bassett ’72 and Sheri Larsen ‘70
The hike – via Hedgehog Brook Trail and the Long Trail - is 5.2 miles round trip and should take 3 hours of hiking time plus time for lunch. The elevation gain is approximately 2000 ft. At the start of Hedgehog Brook Trail, we’ll cross a small stream by hopping across rocks. The trail climbs gradually at first and then more steeply until we reach the Long Trail after 2 miles. We’ll head north on the Long Trail and ascend steeply to the open summit ledges, where there are lovely views in all directions. We’ll have lunch at the top and retrace our steps to the trailhead.
Meeting times and places:
9:30 a.m. at Richmond Park and Ride off I-89 at Exit 11 - Elizabeth and Sheri will meet here to carpool with any others from the Burlington area.
10:10 a.m. at the Fayston Town Offices, located at 866 North Fayston Road (which is off of Rt. 100, just south of the intersection with Rt. 100B). We’ll leave extra cars here, making parking at the trailhead easier.
10:25 a.m. at the trailhead
Directions to the trailhead from I-89:
Either take Rt. 100 south from Waterbury (Exit 10 on I-89) or Rt. 100B south from Middlesex (Exit 9 on I-89). From the intersection of Rt. 100 and Rt. 100B, travel south on Rt. 100 for 1.0 miles and turn right on to North Fayston Road. (Note: If you get to Airport Road on the right, you have gone too far and need to turn around.) Take North Fayston Road for 4.0 miles until several roads come together. Take a slight right on to Big Basin Road and follow it until the parking area on the right for Hedgehog Brook Trail.
Directions to the trailhead from Waitsfield/Warren:
Take Rt.100 north through Waitsfield. Continue north past Center Fayston Road, Quarry Road and Airport Road and then turn left on North Fayston Road. Take North Fayston Road for 4.0 miles until several roads come together. Take a slight right on to Big Basin Road and follow it until the parking area on the right for Hedgehog Brook Trail.
Please contact Sheri Larsen if you are planning to join the hike. She can be reached at 802-878-6828 or email@example.com. Please let her know where you will meet up with the group or whether you would like to carpool with others from some other location (e.g., the Middlesex Park and Ride, or other meeting points throughout the state). If weather does not cooperate, those who have RSVP’d will be notified of any changes.
